Suicide is a tragedy that affects individuals, families, peers, and communities. It is important to understand specific risk factors associated with suicide and suicidal ideation – or having thoughts of suicide. It is critical for physicians to receive education in early signs and symptoms of emotional distress, which could lead to depression. An ability to assess suicidal risk is also very important.

Our Mission

This website was created with the goal of helping to make people (including psychologists and psychiatrists), who are hoping to treat or support individuals struggling with suicidal ideation, aware of the Turkish cultural underpinnings of suicide. Raising awareness about these issues cross-culturally will increase cross-cultural competence, which has the potential to decrease the prevalence of suicide and suicidal ideation. Learning about this type of issue in a culture other than one’s own broadens the scope through which one views these types of controversial issues.
